Taron Egerton Wins Golden Globe For Portrayal Of Elton John In ‘Rocketman’

Taron Egerton, who portrayed Elton John in the biopic Rocketman, won the Golden Globe award for best performance by an actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy.

The biopic, named after John’s 1972 hit song, was released in May of last year to critical acclaim and box office success.

Based on a screenplay by Billy Elliot‘s Lee Hall, Rocketman follows the music icon’s life and career.

Egerton is the second actor to be nominated for the portrayal of a British rock legend in recent years.

Rami Malek won the Oscar for best actor last year for playing late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

“I’m Gonna Love Me Again,” a song written for Rocketman by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, also won the Golden Globe for best original song.

Rocketman was also nominated for best comedy or musical but lost out to Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.
