Strictly Come Dancing stars Aljaz Skorjanec, 30, and Janette Manrara, 36, have become household names for all fans of the annual BBC competition. But they’re more than just co-stars, they’re also husband and wife.

In lockdown, we have been able to reconnect again just as Aljaz and Janette – not the dancers but the human beings

After meeting at a dance studio in London back in 2010, the couple have been connected ever since and began performing on the popular ballroom show together in 2013.

After a lengthy engagement, they finally tied the knot in 2017 at a romantic ceremony in London, followed by two more in their retrospective hometowns in Florida and Slovenia.

And while this year’s Strictly series hangs in the balance as producers are “working around the clock” to pull the show together amid the coronavirus pandemic, they admitted the lockdown has done wonders for their marriage.

Since the government sent the UK into lockdown back in March over fears of spreading the virus further, we have all been hauled up in our homes with not much to do.

Some are lucky enough to be isolated with their loved ones, while others are alone and missing the company of their family and friends.

But for Aljaz and Janette, their lockdown experience has been very positive.

Speaking to Hello! Magazine, the pair described how their time spent confined together has helped them fall in love all over again.

It’s no secret that Strictly is a very demanding show, with the cast working ungodly hours rehearsing for the live shows.

And while the program isn’t on-air, the professional dancers are putting their talented skills to good use elsewhere.

But being able to relax at home together instead of constantly travelling for work has brought them closer together.

Janette told the publication: “Our normality is travelling and staying in hotels and moving around at a million miles an hour, so for us to have the opportunity to spend time at home, cooking and watching movies has been so nice.

“We spend a lot of time together anyway, but we are always working. In lockdown, we have been able to reconnect again just as Aljaz and Janette – not the dancers but the human beings – and it kind of reminded us why we fell in love in the first place.”

But it’s not just themselves they’ve fallen back in love with.

Like many across the nation, they’ve adopted a new hobby outside of the ballroom.

Aljaz added: “We have used the kitchen more in the past couple of months than we have in the entire eight years we have lived in London and I have even bought my first barbecue.

“I’m really enjoying making burgers outside and Janette has found a new love for cooking.”

Janette continued: “I love the kitchen! I never thought I would fall in love with cooking and baking but I find it almost therapeutic to put music on and follow a really great recipe.”

She revealed her new specialities are fajitas and spaghetti bolognese, thriving off surprising her hubby with delicious dinners.

“For a lot of people this situation isn’t normal but we have discovered what normal is. You make dinner and barbecue at home,” she joked.

The couple’s full interview is available to read now in Hello! Magazine.

Strictly is set to return to BBC One later this year.
