Princess Diana ‘would have agreed’ with Prince Harry’s decision to step down as senior member of Royal family

Princess Diana would have agreed with her son Prince Harry's decision to step down as a "senior" member of the Royal family, an insider has claimed.

Prince Harry, 35, and his 38 year old wife, Meghan Markle, announced plans to reduce their royal roles on Wednesday night.

Nigel Cawthorne, the author of Call Me Diana: The Princess of Wales on the Princess of Wales, has now given his view on the highly controversial situation — and thinks Harry's mum would be happy with his action.

He said: "Prince Harry's mother Diana would undoubtedly have agreed with the wisdom of her son and his wife's decision.

"Prince Charles' words to her after giving birth were, she recalled: 'first comment, 'Oh God it's a boy', second comment, 'Oh no, he's even got rusty hair!''

"He then turned around and left to play polo. It marked the end of his interest in her."

Nigel continued: "Instead of waiting for the inevitable, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision avoids the destruction by a thousand cuts that Diana suffered subsequent to the birth of Prince Harry where she had provided the 'spare' and became a dispensable part of the firm."

Prince Harry and Meghan announced their shock news in a joint statement, which read: "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

"It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.
