Previously Unseen Elton John Performance Video Hits The Web

A long-lost video of Sir Elton John and his band performing the classic 1973 stand alone single “Step Into Christmas” has surfaced online.

The rare footage, which was originally broadcast on ITV’s The Gilbert O’Sullivan Show, had been lost for decades in the network’s archives.

In addition to John, the video features Davey Johnstone, Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson and lyricist Bernie Taupin on percussion.

The original recording of “Step Into Christmas” was included in the Elton John box set Diamonds, released in 2017.

It marked the 50th anniversary of John and Taupin as song-writing partners.

“Step Into Christmas” hit No. 24 on the UK Singles Chart at the turn of 1973, and reached No. 11 in 2018.

John, who is in the midst of a three-year farewell tour, will wrap up the 2018 leg next week.

The second leg of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will begin in mid-January.
