Pete Davidson appears on SNL after ‘cry for help’ and police check
There was some relief among Pete Davidson’s fans after the comedian made a brief appearance on Saturday Nght Live, just hours after causing alarm by posting apparent ‘suicidal thoughts’ on Instagram.
The 25-year-old had caused concern for his 2.5 million followers by revealing that he "really don’t want to be on this earth anymore."
The comedian had previously posted about his mental health struggles but this last one, which preceded him deleting his social media accounts, also brought a response from ex-fiancee, Ariana Grande.
So concerned was Ariana, that after reaching out to Pete on Twitter, she seemingly travelled to where SNL was being filmed, so that she could show her support for him in person.
The NYPD received so many calls from fans of the comedian, that they performed a wellness check on Pete, to satisfy that he was okay.
After appearing in a pre-recorded video sketch, Pete was seen by viewers as he took to the SNL stage to introduce Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus.
Dressed in a green jacket over a red hoodie, he spoke briefly, saying: "Once again, Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus."
What seemed to spark this was Pete taking offence to a "dumb joke" that Ariana had made.
Ariana alluded that this seems to be linked to the argument that rappers Kanye West and Drake were having.
Ariana had apologised to Kanye West after he accused her of using his mental health problems to promote her new record.
In a series of tweets, the chart-topping singer said she regretted comments made yesterday in which she appeared to ask West and Drake to stop feuding so the public could focus on the release of her new single, Imagine.
Following social media backlash from West’s fans, Ariana said she, "hated the internet," but asked that people, "stop weaponising mental health".
It comes after West published a series of tweets attacking Canadian rapper Drake.
The pair have been involved in a dispute over alleged "diss" records and allegations of betrayal.
Kanye, who is married to reality television star Kim Kardashian West, was earlier this year forced to deny rumours his wife had ever been romantically involved with Drake.
On Thursday, Kanye returned to the feud by posting a series of tweets including one suggesting Drake had asked permission to sample one of his songs.
Ariana tweeted asking if the pair could "behave for just like a few hours so the girls can shine" before West responded, accusing her of making a "joke out of mental health".
The rapper has previously said he experiences bipolar disorder while also claiming he only suffers from insomnia.
In a subsequent series of tweets, Ariana apologised for "triggering" Kanye and wished him well.
She said: "With all due respect, I don’t need to use anyone to promote anything. Period. I was making a comment about what men were doing at the time vs. women.
"It was a joke which i understand now was probably insensitive. I apologise if I was in any way triggering and hope u feel well today."
Responding to a fan who said she had not needed to apologise, Ariana added: "For potentially triggering him? nah regardless of how I feel about a situation, I can also care about their mental health."
Artiana has since deleted her tweets about Kanye and Pete.
