Owen Wilson ‘pays $25k child support’ for child he’s 'never met'
Owen Wilson reportedly pays $25,000 (£19,000) per month in child support for the daughter he has never met.
Last year, it was determined that the Wedding Crashers actor was the father of a baby girl named Lyla, after his ex-girlfriend Varunie Vongsvirates agreed to a paternity test.
Although he’s yet to meet Lyla, who is now one-years-old, court documents reveal Owen does support the child financially.
According to Radar Online who obtained the court papers dating back to June 2018, Owen and Varunie’s lawyers agreed to monthly payments of $25,000 to take care of Lyla, as well as a one-off $70,000 to cover the costs of a labour coach, a night nurse and Varunie’s legal fees.
Lyla has also been added to Owen’s Screen Actors Guild medical insurance, but he ticked the ‘none’ box under visitation rights and wrote that he was ‘not certain if he is the parent’.
Varunie has sole custody of the child and makes all decisions regarding her health, education and welfare.
The documents also state that neither party should ‘make disparaging and/or derogatory remarks about the other party, or their significant others, if any, in the presence of the minor child.’
Varunie and Owen, 51, dated on and off for five years but split before Lyla was born.
The Hollywood actor has never publicly commented on the paternity issue but Varunie has spoken out to plead with Owen to meet his daughter.
Speaking to the Mail Online in November, Varunie said: ‘Lyla needs a father. It’s ironic how [Owen] keeps getting these father roles, he’s playing a father in his new movie, and he’s never met his own daughter…
‘He helps financially but it’s never been about that.’
She added: ‘You should see your daughter, she’s incredible, you’re really missing out. She looks just like you…
Varunie filed a paternity petition in May 2018 five months after the baby was born.
Owen is also father to two sons, Robert, eight, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Jade Duell, and Finn, five, from his former relationship with Caroline Lindqvist.
While he allegedly has no relationship with Lyla, a source previously described him as a doting father to his elder children.
‘Owen has been a great father to his boys and has maintained a warm and close relationship with their mothers,’ the source told Us Weekly.
‘Of course, if a paternity test establishes that he is the father of another child, he will fulfill all of his obligations to support his child.’
Owen’s reps have previously refused to address the situation publicly and said last year: ‘This is a private matter and it’s not appropriate to comment further.’
