Oscars’ Big Snubs: Bradley Cooper & Ryan Coogler For Director, Mr. Rogers Docu, Emily Blunt Get Cold Shoulder
Looks like the 91st Academy Awards won’t have a traditional host like in past years but for some this morning not hearing their names read out in the nominations announcement by Tracee Ellis Ross and Kumail Nanjiani was the real shocker.
Kicking off the first round of nominations, the black-ish star admitted that she had never watched the early AM announcement before and perhaps Bradley Cooper, Timothee Chalamet and a few others wish they hadn’t either.

Host or not, the Oscars will be presented live on February 24 at 5 PM PT/8 PM ET on ABC.
Bradley Cooper – A Star Is Born snagged nominations for Best Picture, Best Song, and Best Actress for Lady Gaga as well as a Best Actor for Cooper himself but the early morning sky did not shine with a Best Director for the man.
Timothee Chalamet – Things were not so beautiful with Academy voters for the acclaimed Beautiful Boy actor after all.
Julia Roberts – Ben Is Back didn’t not bring this past Oscar winner back to the AMPAS voters
Ryan Coogler – Black Panther is up for Best Picture but the past Sundance winner who helmed the barrier breaking Marvel flick was left behind
Won’t You Be My Neighbor – Past Oscar winner Morgan Neville’s touching and insightful portrait of Fred Rogers was a true crowd pleaser for our times but clearly the Academy didn’t want to drop by for a visit, which is just not very nice.
Barry Jenkins – Sure there was a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination of the James Baldwin work, but the Moonlight helmer heard nothing this morning for his directing efforts on If Beale Street Could Talk.
The Rider – Chloe Zhao’s sophomore effort was a stunning depiction of the modern American West with non-actors taking the reigns. Yet what was a great ride for the National Society of Film Critics was stuck in the paddock for Oscar voters.
Ethan Hawke – Prayers and a damn good performance were not enough for the First Reformed actor.
First Man – Today was not a giant leap for the Damien Chazelle helmed Neil Armstrong flick
Crazy Rich Asians – With eight nominations in the Best Picture category, don’t tell me there wasn’t room for this breakthrough charmer – especially with that great turn by Michelle Yeoh.
Emily Blunt – Somewhere between A Quiet Place and Mary Poppins Returns you think the clearly campaigning actress would have hit the right note with the AMPAS voters.
Brian Tyree Henry – The Atlanta and Broadway alum was stunning in If Beale Street Could Talk but no Oscar love was spoken.
Women directors – Not one, not a single woman among the list of Best Director nominees. Really Hollywood? No Mimi Leder? No Karyn Kusama? No Chloe Zhao? Really?
Peter Farrelly – Green Book got a Best Picture nom but the director who brought it to the screen was snubbed, that doesn’t read right
John David Washington – BlacKkKlansman cleaned up with nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and more but the name of its strong main man was not part of the shout out.
A Quiet Place – The John Krasinski directed and starring film got the silent treatment for the most part.
Michael B. Jordan – He was briefly king of Wakanada but the Black Panther actor did not get to take the Oscar throne in what should have been a Best Supporting Actor nomination.
Margot Robbie – The I, Tanya nominee was not to reign for her turn as Queen Elizabeth I in Mary, Queen of Scots today.
Three Identical Strangers – This almost unbelievable true story of a trio of brothers was a total stranger to Oscars this morning.
