Neil Jones relives Katya’s ‘shock kiss with Seann’ and why it didn’t ruin them

Strictly Come Dancing professional Neil Jones has relived the moment that almost cost him his six-year marriage to fellow dancer Katya.

One of the most talked about moments of the last Strictly series was not a mind-blowing performance on the dancefloor but a drunken late night kiss between dance partners.

The kiss between 29-year-old Katya Jones and comedian Seann Walsh was too much for his girlfriend, who promptly dumped him.

Neil, 36, on the other hand was determined that this was not going to break his marriage and four months after the Strictly final, he has broken his silence about exactly what he thought when the scandal threatened to engulf the BBC show.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Neil admits "it was a shock" but he decided to keep calm and carry on, instead of telling Katya to pack her bags.

Recalling the days after the kiss, Neil said: "We had to work it out between ourselves, to understand what had happened.

"But I wasn’t going to allow that one little thing to get in the way of ten very happy years."

One of the calming factors as the kiss storm was whipped up, was Neil's mother who urged him 'not to overreact'.

Neil said that he "didn’t want to run around in a panic" and stayed calm, even when people around him urged him to speak out and show emotion, especially as Katya had to continue dancing with Seann.

The pro dancer said that he "wanted to speak to Katya" as they "had to sort it out privately" and has claimed his 'positivity' helped them through.

Neil has put the kiss down to a "mistake" and said "it was a mistake, and we’re here now, together, moving on."

Drawing comparisons with how it works in the world of dance, Neil said: "When the person you’re dancing with makes a mistake, you don’t throw a fit and tell everyone they did the wrong step.

"You look at why the step was wrong, and how you can fix it."

The former world Latin champions have certainly fixed it and seem to have come out of the ordeal as a stronger couple.

They are now going to tell the story of their life together in a new show called Somnium, which takes their coupling from the first kiss on a Russian beach.

Neil believes that there was support for his relationship with Katya because "no relationship is perfect. I think people can relate to that."
