Mike Tindall reveals hilarious thing the Queen likes him to wear at Christmas
Rugby legend Mike Tindall wowed the Queen at Sandringham… by dressing up as a Santa forward.
Mike, 40, wed to HRH’s granddaughter Zara, added some fun to the Royals’ more formal Christmas by sporting a bright red suit… with a festive theme.
Giving a rare insight into celebrations at the Queen’s Norfolk estate, he appeared on website JOE’s House of Rugby podcast in a suit decked with Christmas trees.
The former England captain, 40, dad to Mia Grace, four and Lena Elizabeth, six months, said: “This year we opened presents on Christmas Eve – I wore one of these.
"And just to give a little punch on Christmas morning I came down in a different little set-up.
“The queen loves bright colours. She thinks dark colours are for sad times.”
And Christmases at Sandringham are a world away from those in Otley, West Yorks, when he was growing up.
Mike explained: “By the time I’d have normally got up I’ve been to church twice. It’s completely different – I’ve never had to take as many outfits anywhere.”
He also revealed he and Olympian Zara, 37, spent a private Christmas morning with the Queen two years ago, shortly after she had a miscarriage.
Mike added: “[the Queen] wasn’t feeling very well so didn’t go to church. We’d been through what we’d been through, so we did our own little [ceremony].
"I had a suit on like this. I was trying to raise the mood.”
He also told how he joined the Queen and watched her Christmas broadcast with the other Royals.
