Melania Trump unveils traditional decorations for Christmas 2019 in the White House
A year after controversy ensued over her red Christmas tree display, First Lady Melania Trump unveiled more traditional decorations to kick off the 2019 holiday season.
The White House opened its doors to photographers early Monday morning for a glimpse at the decorations, which included traditional green Christmas trees, complete with red ornaments and blue bows for a patriotic flair, floral arrangements, a nativity scene and a gingerbread White House.
The first lady also tweeted a video of herself strolling through the newly-decorated 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., opening a White House-themed advent calendar, adjusting ornaments and sprinkling fake snow on a Christmas tree.
“’The Spirit of America’ is shining in the @WhiteHouse!” the tweet read. “I am delighted to share this beautiful exhibit of patriotism for all to see, and excited for everyone to experience the beauty of the #Christmas season!”
The East Colonnade, which last year housed red Christmas trees some critics said looked like they belonged in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” this year showed off a Winter Wonderland theme, with glass panels lit up and adorned with images of snow-covered trees. Silver stars hang from above.
