Mario Lopez Gets Heat After Posting ‘Tasteless’ Kobe Bryant Meme

Not everyone is finding Mario Lopez’s tribute to the late Kobe Bryant inspiring — in fact, some people are calling it downright “tasteless”!

On Friday, the Access Hollywood host shared a meme of the NBA legend on his Instagram page insinuating the LA Lakers icon is looking down on his mourners from heaven and shaking his head at their lazy grieving.

The post in question shows the basketball star giving an unimpressed face during a game, likely in disagreement with whatever call was just made. The caption above the pic reads:

“Kobe probably in heaven looking down at us like, ‘You over there crying but you need to be in the gym puttin in work.”

Since the 41-year-old was known for his workhorse mentality, the meme was intended to motivate those who saw it to put in the work Kobe-style. That’s definitely how Lopez saw it, as his caption read:

“Time to grind and put in that work. Eternally inspired… #MambaMentality”

Unfortunately, not everyone felt the inspo so soon after the legend’s passing. Some fans were offended and slammed the TV personality, leaving comments like:

“Its not the time to joke around.”

“This is not funny at all.”

“Tooooo… Soon”

Others, however, appreciated the Saved By The Bell actor’s post. One user declared it was the “best meme” they’d ever seen, while another responded to critics by writing:

“What are we gonna do? Sit here and mourn forever? Hard work is what this man was all about. People are inspired by his mentality which is why this was posted.”

There’s no denying that. Throughout his career, Bryant told fans that dedication and perseverance are the keys to success and that he never considered failure to be an option for him.

Here’s one of the legend’s many inspiring quotes about rising to the challenge:

“I have self-doubt. I have insecurity. I have fear of failure. I have nights when I show up at the arena and I’m like, ‘My back hurts, my feet hurt, my knees hurt. I don’t have it. I just want to chill.’ We all have self-doubt. You don’t deny it, but you also don’t capitulate to it. You embrace it.”

Here’s another on hard work:

“I have nothing in common with lazy people who blame others for their lack of success. Great things come from hard work and perseverance. No excuses.”

And another on chasing success:

“When you make a choice and say, ‘Come hell or high water, I am going to be this,’ then you should not be surprised when you are that. It should not be something that is intoxicating or out of character because you have seen this moment for so long that … when that moment comes, of course it is here because it has been here the whole time, because it has been the whole time.”
