Mariah Carey Shares First Performance Of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’
Mariah Carey recently shared a video of the first performance of her holiday classic, “All I Want For Christmas is You,” on her YouTube channel.
Carey recorded the song at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York on December 8, 1994.
The video shows the singer, then 24, clad in black pants and a matching tank top, performing the song.
“For the first time ever, fans can relive this historic fundraising event that notably benefited The Fresh Air Fund and Camp Mariah,” reads the description on YouTube. “The unveiling of the show from The Cathedral of St. John The Divine is a long-anticipated official release of live concert material that has been sought after by fans for many years.”
The song, which Carey co-wrote with Walter Afanasieff, was released in late October 1994 as the lead single from her holiday album Merry Christmas.
A new two-CD 25th anniversary deluxe edition of Carey’s Merry Christmas album will include the original disc as well as a bonus disc with previously unreleased live tracks from the singer’s 1994 St. John the Divine benefit concert, rare remixes and a brand new rendition of “Sugar Plum Fairy” and other seasonal tracks.
