Kirsty Gallacher left ‘sobbing’ as she shares devastating loss of beloved pet
Former Sky Sports and GB News presenter Kirsty Gallacher has shared her heartbreak following the death of her beloved dog Betsy. The star took to Instagram to share some snaps of the adorable pet, as her fans and friends took to the comments section to send their condolences.
Kirsty, 47, broke the sad news to her 405,000 followers yesterday with a picture of them resting their heads on one another. She wrote: “Well it’s taken me days to be able to post this sad news and I’m sobbing as I do so.
“On Monday our beloved, beautiful Betsy passed away peacefully at the grand old age of 12. Many of you know her story, but if you don’t, well we adopted her from @battersea 8 years ago, she was broken, had been used as a breeding bitch, abused and then abandoned.
“We met at a time when I was equally ‘broken’ and went on an amazing journey together. We healed each other. She was everything to me.
“My Father Bernard’s words have resonated more than any others,” she added. “He said, ‘If Betsy could speak she would say thank you for giving me a lovely life and she loves you all X.’”
Kirsty is a huge animal lover, speaking earlier this year about her group of pets in an article for the Sun.
She told them: “I’ve got three dogs at the moment, two of which are rescues, including our British bulldog Betsy, Frank the cocker spaniel, who was a stray found wandering London during Storm Franklin and a French bulldog called Bertie.
“We also have a rescue tortoise called Theo as I just love being surrounded by animals and my kids keep asking for more. We really will take in anything.
“They all bring such joy to us and are all firmly part of the family.”
The presenter’s followers have since flooded the comments section with messages of support for her grieving family.
A Place in the Sun’s Jasmine Harman commented: “So sorry to hear this sad news. Xxx Beautiful Betsy, Run Free and wait for Mama at the Rainbow Bridge xxx.” (sic)
“I’m so sorry Kirsty. Sending you all the love,” wrote Strictly’s Karen Hauer, while Myleene Klass added: “Kirsty! I’m so sorry.”
Alex Hammond penned: “I’m so sorry to hear this. We love them so much, and every time it’s the worst day of our lives. Sending love xx.” (sic)
