Kim Kardashian Gave Her Own Subtle Response About the Taylor Swift-Kanye West Phone Call Leak

Over the weekend, the full infamous “Famous” phone call between Kanye West and Taylor Swift leaked on social media. Taylor Swift gave a subtle response to it by liking Tumblr posts pointing out she was “telling the truth the entire time,” and Kim Kardashian made her own feelings known by liking one single unamused hot-take tweet.

For context: Back in 2016, Kim Kardashian released excerpts of the Swift-West phone call on Snapchat that gave the impression that Swift approved all West’s controversial “Famous” lyrics about her (the lyrics were “I made that bitch famous,” and “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex”) despite her claims otherwise. It led to Swift’s reputation taking a major hit, Swift getting harassed on social media, and the singer retreating from public life for over a year.

The reality was Swift wasn’t lying: West didn’t get her approval to call her “that bitch”—the line Swift later took issue with. As she explained to Rolling Stone in September 2019, ‘The world didn’t understand the context and the events that led up to it. Because nothing ever just happens like that without some lead-up. Some events took place to cause me to be pissed off when he called me a bitch. That was not just a singular event. Basically, I got really sick of the dynamic between he and I. And that wasn’t just based on what happened on that phone call and with that song—it was kind of a chain reaction of things.

In the call, Swift even mentioned that she was glad that West didn’t call her a “stupid, dumb bitch” in the lyrics that he ran past her.

“I’m glad it’s not mean though,” she said. “It doesn’t feel mean, but like, oh my God, the build-up you gave it. I thought it was gonna be like that stupid dumb bitch, like, but it’s not.”

On Saturday morning, #KanyeWestIsOverParty and #TaylorWasTellingtheTruth trended on Twitter. But Kardashian didn’t see how the call exonerated Swift. She liked a tweet that said “the video showed nothing new. We all knew that. I’m so confused right now.”

Kardashian previously spoke about being over the Taylor Swift drama way back in September 2016. “Ugh, do we really have to talk about Taylor Swift? I’m so over it,” she told Billboard. “If it were up to Kanye, it all [the phone call] would probably never have come out. He can handle it, he has no hard feelings. He doesn’t even really care. I just wanted to protect my husband. I saw him getting a lot of shit.”

“It wasn’t even about a look or anything, or to have this feud—it was like, ‘Okay, here’s the truth.’ Done,” Kardashian said. “Let’s all move on. I feel like I don’t want to talk about her anymore.”
