Kevin Clifton: ‘Was really magical’ Strictly pro speaks out on dancing with Susanna Reid
Kevin Clifton, 37, had his first celebrity partner, Susanna Reid, back in 2013 on Strictly Come Dancing. The two performed a very memorable Paso Doble at Blackpool during their stint together, and Kevin admitted it was “magical”.
Following last weekend’s trip to Blackpool, Kevin appeared on the Strictly Come Dancing podcast where he chatted to presenter, Kim Winston.
Kim reminisced on Kevin’s time on the dance floor in the seaside town with Susanna and said it was an unforgettable dance.
She said to the professional dancer: “Your first year in Strictly you and Susanna Reid, and I call it ‘that’ Paso because for me, I remember sitting there and all the production team and it was when she got her outfit on and you had your outfit and it was just one of those ‘wow’ moments.”
“One of those dances which you will never ever forget.”

She asked: “When you were rehearsing for it, did you feel more pressure than any other week?”
Kevin spilled: “I certainly felt like I wanted it to go well because it was Blackpool. I had no idea how well it was going to go.”
“Sometimes with a number you will be practising it during the week and think we’re on to a good one here, this is one of our best numbers this is going to go really well,” he continued.
“Or you can think we’re struggling with this one.”
He went on: “With that one, I really had no idea how it was going to go, we were just trying to put our best Paso forward.”
Kevin called the evening “magical” as he recalled the audience giving them a rapturous applause.
“There was something really magical about that night,” he said.
“When we talk about that Paso, I remember saying to Susanna you have to treat Blackpool Tower Ballroom like it’s an arena, a gladiator arena in Rome, you have to look around right at the top balcony and just dominate the room with your energy.”

He continued: “There’s no point just doing the steps, you’ve got to fill the room with your energy and really perform to the person right at the back.”
Kevin, who is in a relationship with last year’s celebrity partner Stacey Dooley, said the moment was emotional.
He divulged: “And I remember at the end there was this roar from the crowd that was so loud and I felt… I’ve had a couple of moments on Strictly where I’ve felt quite emotional.”
On It Takes Two previously Kevin appeared in a segment where he reflected on some of the most unforgettable dances in Strictly Come Dancing history.

Kevin reflected on his Paso Doble with the Good Morning Britain presenter and said it made people think twice about how well Susanna could do in the competition.
“We’d been doing okay, up until then [people were] sort of getting behind her and then Blackpool happened,” he said.
Kevin praised: “Everything came together, the costumes, the music, the fire at the beginning.”
“Susanna danced an absolute blinder,” he complimented. “I’d never seen Susanna dance like she did that night.”
Kevin said they “pulled off” the performance as he spoke about how much that dance still means to him.
“It’s a really, really special dance for me actually,” Kevin said. “I think we really pulled off that Paso Doble, may not have pulled off the trousers.”
