Kate Garraway reveals husband Derek is still in ‘deeply critical condition’ as he continues to battle covid-19

Kate Garraway has revealed her husband Derek Draper is still in a "deeply critical condition" as he continues to battle the coronavirus in the intensive care unit in hospital.

The 52 year old took to Instagram on Thursday 16 April to share a video of the weekly Clap For Carers campaign effort, where Brits up and down the country take to their balconies and front doors to applaud the NHS for their tireless effort to keep us safe.

The Good Morning Britain host, whose husband was first diagnosed two weeks ago, captioned the clip of the fireworks with an emotional message thanking the health works for keeping Derek, also 52, alive.

Kate wrote: "From the bottom of my heart a billion thank yous to the extraordinary #nhsworkers whose skills, dedication and downright guts in the face of so much personal risk , are keeping my Derek alive , just as they are doing for thousands of covid patients. . [sic]

"I’m afraid he is still in a deeply critical condition, but he is still here , which means there is hope.

"Sending so much love and support to the thousands who have had that hope for their loved ones stolen by this hideous disease.

"You are not alone and I hope that helps give you strength to withstand the torture of grief."

The TV presenter, whose pals Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid recently shared emotional messages supporting her, continued by expressing her gratitude to her neighbours, friends and family who have helped out with her children Darcey, 13, and 10 year old William, too.

"Thank you, too, to my own little band of “key workers” , the neighbours who let off fireworks tonight for the #nhs, gave the Easter bunny a helping hand to make life feel a bit more normal for Darcey & Billy, those who have dropped off food, and friends family and all of you who have sent messages of love and support."

Several of Kate's colleagues have been supporting her throughout this difficult time, too, and offering few updates to the public regarding her husband's condition.
