J. Lo Is a Drama Queen and That's Why A-Rod Loves Her, According to an Astrologer
Sometimes it feels like believing in celebrity love is as foolish as believing in unicorns or Mary Poppins or a lasting Bachelor franchise relationship. But once in a blue moon, a couple will shine so brightly, so clearly, that it feels impossible to not believe in an everlasting love — even if its twisted roots are tangled up in the messy world of showbiz.
We’re talking about Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, obviously. Both have been in the public eye for as long as anyone can remember (which is like, 25 years), and both have managed to stay at the top of their game thanks to a work ethic that makes us sweat just thinking about it.

But what’s the real secret sauce in J-Rod’s top-shelf romance? It might — like most things worth caring about — boil down to astrology. Both are Leos — though J. Lo, at 49, has six years on A. Rod, 43 — which, surprisingly, works in their favor.
For InStyle’s weekly astrological compatibility column, The Fault In Our Stars’ Stars, we teamed up with Courtney Perkins of the freakishly accurate (and hilarious) @notallgeminis astrological Instagram account to break down why J. Lo and A-Rod are number one in each other’s hearts — and also in ours.
The couple:
Lopez, 49, launched her career in the early ’90s, making a name for herself as a dancer before going on to conquer as the queen of not just dance, but also singing, acting and reality TV show judging (first on American Idol, later on World of Dance).
But the fun doesn’t stop there. When she’s not conquering the movie, TV and music industries (as well as every red carpet associated with them all), she’s been known to produce fragrances, makeup collections and clothing collaborations — you know, on the side.
Rodriguez, for his part, also pull his weight. The former athlete, 43, played pro baseball for more than 20 years before retiring in 2016. You’ll remember him best for his days as the star of the New York Yankees, where he was part of the team that won the 2009 World Series. During his 22-season career, he also took home 3 American League MVP titles and weathered a performance-enhancing drug scandal. These days, he’s on the entrepreneurial grind, and also lends his two cents as a commentator.
Their sign:
Leo: Both Lopez and Rodriguez are Leos which, according to Compatible Astrology, means they’re “extremely forward and self assured” in relationships. “Leos can come across as aggressive or impatient when starting relationships,” reads the site, but “the positive in this is that there are no head games played by this Lion, what you see is what you get, and Leos tell you exactly what they want and like.”
“The key with Leo relationships is honesty, they tend to value this trait very much,” says Compatible Astrology.
The relationship:
Pretty much everything you could ever hope to know about Lopez and Rodriguez could be summed up in this photograph of the power couple on the red carpet, where A-Rod played the perfect (not to mention, handsome) Instagram boyfriend.

For everything else, look no further than their joint Vanity Fair cover story from December of last year. The pair detailed their first meeting (back when J. Lo was still married to Marc Anthony, and he threw out the first pitch at a Yankees game), to their reconnection (J. Lo tapped him on the shoulder when they saw each other at a Beverly Hills restaurant in 2017), to their first date (including when A-Rod sent a text from the bathroom, reading, “you look sexy af”).
It helped that they had a lot in common. “We are very much twins,” Rodriguez said. “We’re both Leos; we’re both from New York; we’re both Latino and about 20 other things.”
As for their romance, it all boils down to their values. “I thought, Wow, this person is different,” Lopez recalled. “Because a lot of people I’ve met in my life, they don’t appreciate what they’re doing and how amazing it is … not the greatness of the house, but the moment of sitting there with someone you love, with a family, with healthy kids.”
The compatibility breakdown:
“A queen needs a king!” says Perkins of J-Rod’s love connection. “Some might argue that the only person who can take on a dramatic Leo is an even more dramatic Leo.”
Given the sign’s tendency to be intense, passionate and borderline aggressive when it comes to new relationships, it’s fitting that only another Leo would truly vibe with that energy, and not go running for the hills.
“They understand each other completely,” she continues, “and want to show each other off because um, hello, they’re both vain and need to be recognized for their star power!”
This, says Perkins, is perhaps why the paparazzi photo of A-Rod snapping J.Lo came to be. Not only does she have a personal photographer, but he gets to look like a real contender for the Best Boyfriend award. Truly, a win-win.
