J Balvin, Roddy Ricch Pull Out Of 2020 MTV VMAs

J Balvin and Roddy Ricch have pulled out of 2020 MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 30.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be performing at this year’s VMAs as announced,” Ricch wrote, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“My team and I did everything in our power to make this work, due to COVID compliance issues at the last minute we had to call off the performance.”

“My team and I are safe and everyone’s health is a main priority, as well as giving a quality performance,” he added. “I appreciate MTV for the opportunity to perform and I hope I can see ya’ll next year.”

Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, BTS, Doja Cat, and Miley Cyrus are among the other performers still scheduled for the show.

Meanwhile, J Balvin has been nominated for 4 awards for his collaborations with Anuel, Maluma, and The Black Eyed Peas, while Ricch has received nominations for Best New Artist, Best Hip-Hop, and Song of the Year for “The Box.”

The award show will not be held indoors at New York’s Barclays Center as previously planned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual event will now feature live outdoor performances throughout the city with no audiences.
