Inside Love Island host favourite Laura Whitmore’s rise to fame and romance

Irish presenter Laura Whitmore is reportedly poised to take over Caroline Flack's role as the Love Island host.

The 34-year-old first became well known in 2008, when she starred on the campaign Pick Me TV where contestants battled it out to become the face of MTV News in MTV Europe.

From 2011, she presented I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Now!, which was the spinoff show at the time – replacing Caroline Flack.

In 2014, Laura become a commentator on the BBC for the Eurovision Song Contest, alongside Scott Mills – thought she did not return for a second year.

Later in the same year she appeared on Channel 4's The Feeling Nuts Comedy Night, to raise awareness for testicular cancer.

Laura left MTV in 2015, and the next year she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing where she was partnered with Giovanni Pernice, who was paired with Michelle Visage in this year's series.

Laura was the sixth contestant to leave her series after a dance off with Ore Oduba and Joanne Clifton, who went on to win the show.

In 2018, Laura landed the job presenting ITV's Survival of The Fittest – but it was cancelled after the first series due to poor ratings.

Shortly before, Laura finally confirmed that she was indeed dating Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, after speculation was rife.

She said the time: “He’s my boyfriend, and he’s lovely. I’ve even got him as my screen saver on my phone.”

The pair met at an ITV party, and it was actually Iain who convinced Laura to first start watching Love Island, which she may well end up presenting.

They were initially in a long distance relationship as Laura's work took her to New York and LA as well as completing an acting course in London, while Iain lived in Edinburgh.

They began to post more of their relationship on social media, and Laura joined Iain and the Stirling family on the trip to Iceland.

In January 2018 she put up a photo of them together on Iain's birthday saying she was “proud you're mine” in a heartfelt message, showing the relationship had become serious.

That summer, The Sun Laura was buying herself a new home and the couple were planning to move in together and turn it into "a love nest".

"They haven't been together too long but she wanted to buy a house. It's their relationship getting more serious," said a source.

Before that, she dated Sunset Sons frontman Rory Williams for seven months, but they split when he struggled to deal with the fame that came with dating Laura.
