Gogglebox has become a guilty pleasure from many across the nation, as watching TV of people watching TV is actually more entertaining than it sounds. Although the show may look pretty self-explanatory, Scarlett Moffat has revealed some behind the scenes knowledge that she believes can make the cast look rather silly.

I’d never watched Downton Abbey, like a full episode, and they show us ten minutes of like a man bleeding from the mouth and then I’m like, what’s going on?

The 29-year-old, who rose to fame from the Channel 4 reality show, confirmed that the cast only get to see short bits of the programs they watch and are given no context as to what’s happening.

During her own conspiracy theory podcast on BBC Radio 1, which she hosts with her boyfriend Scott Dobinson, she told fans that the job was harder than it looks.

“I was a professional couch potato, you’re making it sound easy,” she laughed.

“It was actually very difficult. Don’t take the mick. Do you know what was difficult?”

She explained that the cast watch short scenes: “For example, you know Downton Abbey, we used to have to watch Downton Abbey, but ten minutes of it…

“I’d never watched Downton Abbey, like a full episode, and they show us ten minutes of like a man bleeding from the mouth and then I’m like, ‘What’s going on? What’s happening? Who’s this?’

“And they only show that and it looks like I’m thick as s***, but really it’s because I genuinely don’t have a clue what’s going on.”

She continued: “I’m like, seriously who is this because I’ve never watched it before so actually it was very difficult.”

Scarlett was one of the original cast members of the hit TV show, appearing alongside her mum, dad and little sister.

The Moffatt clan departed in 2017 and Scarlett went on to pursue other opportunities, such as presenting with Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly on Saturday Night Takeaway and winning I’m A Celebrity in 2016.

The family even got their own TV show, The British Tribe Next Door, where they upped and moved their County Durham life to Africa.

But her most recent move was launching this podcast, where the conspiracy obsessed star attempts to uncover the truth behind some of the most weird, wonderful and outright absurd conspiracy theories alongside her non-believer boyfriend.

Covering everything from alien abductions to mermaids, each week pushes the boundaries even further for the idea to be scrutinised by Scott and celebrity guests.

She appeared on Loose Women on Monday to put some of her far-fetched theories to the test and the panel were surprised to say the least.

Among her bizarre ideas were that the Moon landings were faked and that Beatles icon Paul McCartney has been replaced by a lookalike.

She said: “This is what confuses me. People say, ‘I believe that we landed on the Moon’ but then they find it really far-fetched that there can’t be other planets where little men haven’t travelled to ours.”

Gloria Hunniford disagreed as Scarlett replied: “Ah, Gloria, that’s just what they want you to believe.”

But the panel were left gobsmacked when she explained that she believes music legend Paul McCartney is actually a clone, saying: “I don’t know if he’s dead, but there is a lot of evidence in the Beatles songs that say he’s been replaced by a look-a-like Paul McCartney.”

She also revealed that when she was younger, she was visited by aliens.

“My boyfriend Scott thinks that it’s a load of rubbish, because I said when I was about 10, a massive beam of light went into my bedroom window and then I had a dream.

“I think they wanted me to think it was a dream that I had been visited by aliens, but Scott seems to think that it was just a car headlight.”

Scarlett Moffatt Wants To Believe airs Monday’s on BBC Sounds.
