George Strait Extends Record With 27th No. 1 On Top Country Albums Chart

George Strait‘s has extended his record as the singer with most No. 1s in the history of Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart, with his Honky Tonk Time Machine topping the list on its debut.

The album, which is his first studio effort since Cold Beer Conversation in 2015, has earned the King of Country his 27th No. 1 on the chart, way ahead of Garth Brooks and Willie Nelson, who are tied in second place with 17 No. 1s each.

According to Nielsen Music, Honky Tonk Time Machine logged 51,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending April 4, the largest week of 2019 for any country album. Of its starting sum, 44,000 were in album sales, the biggest sales week of the year for a country set.

Strait’s debut on the Top Country Albums chart was in early October 1981, with his debut effort, Strait Country. The album peaked at No. 26. He then got his first No. 1 in 1984 with his third studio album, Right or Wrong.

On the Country Airplay chart dated April 6, “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” a single from Honky Tonk Time Machine climbed 21-19.

On the Billboard 200 chart, Honky Tonk Time Machine debuted at No. 4.
