Former Ozzy Osbourne Guitarist Bernie Tormé Dead At 66

Former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Bernie Tormé has died at the age of 66.

Tormé’s family confirmed the news, saying, “Bernie Tormé passed away peacefully on the 17th March 2019, one day short of his 67th birthday, surrounded by his family.”

“He had been on life support for the past four weeks at a London hospital following post-flu complications.,” the family added. “Bernie will be remembered for dedicating his life to his music for five decades. He will be sorely missed.”

The Irish-born guitarist was recently hospitalized due to double pneumonia and was later put on a ventilator.

Tormé’s former bandmate Mik Gaffney, wrote on Facebook, “It’s been a thrill playing drums for him for the past couple of years. He was loud, passionate, didn’t suffer fools but he was always a true gentleman.”

“I will miss our arguments about Irish whiskey vs Scottish whisky, I will miss him calling me a c**t, I will miss seeing that sparkle in his eye when he strapped his guitar on … RIP Bernie. We we all miss you … ” he added.

Tormé, who was born in Dublin in 1952, learned to play guitar and moved to London in 1974. He joined bassist John McCoy in heavy rockers Scrapyard.

In 1981, Tormé joined Atomic Rooster as a session guitarist and the following year he briefly joined Ozzy Osbourne’s band, stepping in for Randy Rhoads in the aftermath of the guitarist’s tragic death.
