Felicity Huffman pleads guilty in college admissions scam case

‘I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter, my family, my friends, my colleagues and the educational community.’

The statement continued: ‘I want to apologise to them and, especially, I want to apologise to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly.’

Felicity went on to dispute any speculation about her daughter’s knowledge of the scam.

She said: ‘My daughter knew absolutely nothing wrong about my actions, and in my misguided and profoundly wrong way, I have betrayed her.

‘This transgression toward her and the public I will carry for the rest of my life.

‘My desire to help my daughter is no excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty.’

Sentencing is yet to take place and the maximum is said to carry 20 years in prison.

Actress Lori Loughlin is also among those charged in the case and was arrested and charged alongside her husband Mossimo Giannulli. It’s not thought they were involved in Monday’s hearing.

The indictment alleges that Lori and Mossimo, whose 19-year-old daughter Olivia Jade and 20-year-old daughter Isabella, attend USC, ‘agreed to pay bribes totalling $500,000 (£383,317) in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team.

This is ‘despite the fact that they did not participate in crew –thus allowing them to be admitted to USC’.
