Dom Lever praises women for breastfeeding after welcoming first child with Jess
Love Island 's Jess Shears and Dom Lever welcomed their new arrival last month.
And the married couple, who got together on series three of the ITV2 dating show, have just celebrated their first wedding anniversary.
Dom, 28, spoke out about his new arrival at his first celeb appearance since welcoming their bundle of joy at the beginning of October.
The reality TV hunk chatted exclusively to Mirror Online at the JD VIP party in London ahead of the Prograis VS Taylor boxing match over the weekend.
Dom appeared blissfully happy as he explained the reality of adapting to life as a new dad.
He told Mirror Online: "It’s weird because it’s something totally new but at the same time it just feels normal – we have just slipped into our new routine."
The new father-of-one also admitted that he wasn't the one suffering when it comes to the sleepless nights.
Dom confessed: "Jess is awake at 4am with the baby but she lets me lay in till around 6am and then I go downstairs to make breakfast to make up for it!"
Dom and Jess have chosen to keep the details of their baby under wraps and stayed relatively quiet, only occasionally treating fans to cute photos.
The star opened up about the reasons behind their decision of secrecy.
He said: "You’ve probably noticed we have decided not to announce the sex.
"It’s been thrown in our faces a lot that it is what we signed up for – even though we didn’t.
"We just decided we didn’t want it to be like that for our baby."
Dom reminisced about the first few weeks of life with a newborn and explained how the couple were looking forward to getting giggles and smiles from their little one as it grows, but he also reflected on the reality of having a baby.
The telly star joked about how Jess' grandma was shocked to discover the brunette beauty let Dom take the reigns with nappy changes.
He added: "It’s just different now to how it was back in the day. I love being involved; it is amazing."
Dom also spoke proudly about Jess' experience with breastfeeding and praised women for that more than giving birth.
He said: "Honestly, forget the birth and everything, I respect women so much more for breastfeeding.
"It’s not even so much the feeding, it is just such a hard thing, not everyone can do it. Luckily for us, our baby latched on straight away but some people really struggle.
He continued: "‘Breast is best’ is not always the case, that’s the whole reason they made formula. What we have realised is that it is whatever is best for you and your baby."
The smitten couple, who met on Love Island in 2017, tied the knot last year on Valentine's Day, hosting their romantic ceremony on the Greek Island of Mykonos.
Mirror Online spoke to the new dad at an exclusive event with leading sports fashion retailer JD Sports, who partnered with the UK's number one boxing promoters Matchroom Boxing.
Dom joined fellow Love Island star's Georgia Steel , Jack Fowler, Joseph Garratt, Jordan Hames and Joanna Chimonides at the exclusive VIP party.
Celebrities were spotted taking on the punch bag challenge at the launch party ahead of the highly anticipated boxing at the 02 Arena.
