David Beckham’s reps respond to claims he’s set to be first footballer in space
Plans to send David Beckham into space seem to be a work of science fiction, according to his reps.
There have been reports that the legendary footballer was going to be the first from his sport to go stratospheric but any hopes of this plan coming to fruition have been dashed before he the project got to the launchpad.
The 43-year-old father-of-four is going to be keeping his feet firmly on the ground, despite reports of him being approached by space travel firms.
With travel up into the stars becoming a more realistic opportunity, there were hopes that Becks would leave Earth behind for a whizz around the moon.
He won’t be needing to book into astronaut training any time soon though.
Speaking to Mirror Online, his representatives said that, "it’s not true," when asked if the former England captain was blasting off into the skies.
So, while David’s kids might think it is cool for him to head out through the earth’s atmosphere, it looks like it will remain a pipe dream for the companies that are developing the technology and craft to make it happen.
Back on terra firma, Becks did line up with a number of stars from the footballing world, when he was reunited with some of his former Manchester United team mates.
In possibly the greatest seven-a-side team ever assembled, David posted a pic of a ‘Class of 92’ football team, that included Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.
They hadn’t lost their goalscoring ability either, as David boasted in the caption of the pic, that they have scored 19 goals against their unsuspecting opposition.
No doubt that their keeper was hoping to have been beamed up at some point to save picking the ball out of the net one more time.
