Cardi B Deletes Instagram After Backlash Over Her Historic Grammys Win
Fresh off her historic Best Rap Album Grammy win, Cardi B—the rap superstar known equally as well for her slick raps as her over-the-top personality—deleted her Instagram account after she received heavy criticism on the social site.
A fan account (@cardibwrld) captured Cardi’s final IG video (for now) which shows Cardi bare-faced as she fired back at her naysayers who voiced their opinion in her Instagram comments that the Harper’s BAZAAR cover star did not deserve to take home the prestigious award.
“It’s not my style for people to put other people down to uplift somebody else, that’s not my style and that’s not what I’m with and I don’t support that,” she said to her detractors, referencing BET’s major misstep of dragging Nicki Minaj to congratulate Cardi. “However, I been taking a lot of shit today, I’m seeing a lot of bullshit today and I saw a lot of shit last night. And I’m sick of this shit. I worked hard for my mother fucking album,” she declared.
Nicki Minaj and Cardi B were slated to co-headline the BET Experience, which will take place before the BET Awards in June per TMZ, however, Nicki clarified on Twitter that Young Money (Drake and Lil Wayne are label mates) will not partake in the event.
Cardi recalled that last year, people claimed to be shocked that she did not win a Grammy for her hit “Bodak Yellow.” The Bronx native said on Instagram, “[People were saying] ‘Cardi got snubbed. Cardi got snubbed’—now this year it’s a fucking problem. My album went two times platinum.”
She also reminded everyone about her Billboard Chart history and how much she had to grind to finish up her album which included “[locking] myself in the studio for three months” while pregnant. “Some songs couldn’t even get on the fucking album because my nose was so fucking stuffy from my pregnancy,” she detailed.
It wasn’t all negative though, as the previous video that the fan same account posted showed Cardi give thanks to her fans and reiterate her appreciation for all of the awards she has received. “Thank you Bardi Gang, cause y’all love me through the good and the bad and the fake and the lies. I want to say thank you every body, this shit is crazy,” she stated.
Cardi continued: “Every award to me is special to me, Grammys, AMAs, Billboards, BET, Soul Train, Nickelodeon. Awards I get in another mother fucking country. I don’t give a fuck, every award I get goes to my mother’s house, every award to her is just as special and it’s just as special to me. I am so thankful, I am so grateful.”
At the time of publishing, both Cardi’s Facebook and Twitter accounts have not been deactivated.
