Blake Shelton, Todd Tilghman Cover John Mellencamp’s ‘Authority Song’
Blake Shelton joined Todd Tilghman, one of the contestants on NBC‘s realty show “The Voice” on the season finale last Tuesday (May 19), to sing John Mellencamp‘s classic, “Authority Song.”
Shelton and Tilghman performed the song remotely from their respective places.
“I fight authority, authority always wins,” sang Shelton and Tilghman.
Mellencamp got a No. 15 spot on the Billboard 100 list through the song, which was the third single from his album Uh-Huh, released in 1984.
Tilghman, a Mississippi pastor, made it to the finale, driven by his strong performance of MercyMe‘s “I Can Only Imagine” on May 18. His rendition moved Kelly Clarkson to tears that night.
He also performed an original song titled “Long Way Home” drawing great appreciation from Shelton.
During the finale, Shelton also performed his recent No. 1 hit “Nobody But You,” teaming up with Gwen Stefani.
