Anton du Beke: Strictly pro receives help from Kevin Clifton after making ‘massive error’
Anton du Beke, 53, has opened up about his ecstatic reaction when it was announced that he and Emma Barton, 42, had made it through to the next stage of Strictly Come Dancing 2019. The couple seemed relieved to be saved by the public vote after their Rumba landed them at the bottom of the leaderboard last Saturday due to their score from the judges of 22 out of a possible 40.
Anton was so overjoyed about the news he fell to the floor and attempted a knee slide.
However, the professional dancer admitted his celebratory display ended badly as he had to have help from Kevin Clifton, 37.
The duo spoke to It Takes Two host Zoe Ball, 48, about the awkward moment from Sunday night’s Results Show.
Zoe told Emma and Anton: “The thing is though, by Sunday night, you could not hide your joy, in fact shock.”

While replaying the clip which showed the EastEnders actress gasping in surprise and the ballroom and Latin dancer jumping for joy, she added: “Emma, look at your face!
“Anton, I don’t know what he’s doing over there. He’s a little bit happy, he goes into a slide, love that.”
“Did you see how nervous I was? I was like, ‘What is he doing?’” Emma divulged to Zoe in reference to Anton’s reaction.
The latter went on to explain he struggled to get back up again after dropping to the floor in shock on the night.
He admitted: “It was a massive error because when I got there I realised I couldn’t get up unaided.”
Zoe then quizzed: “Did someone from the band have to come and help you up?”
“Kevin wandered down and gave me a hand, thanks love,” Anton informed the giggling presenter.
Anton’s revelation comes after he got into a bit of a disagreement with head judge Shirley Ballas on the show after she criticised Emma’s timing.

She explained to the couple: “The only timing I could read was the basic, the alemana and the sliding doors – three bars of Rumba.
“The rest of it, I have no idea on what count you were dancing this dance.”
Anton was quick to defend Emma as he hit back: “Sometimes there are four steps and three beats. Sometimes there are five steps and seven beats.”
“Sometimes there are no steps,” he said, while talking over the head judge.

Anton then aimed a cheeky jibe at Shirley after she gave them a low score of 5 out of 10 for their routine and Emma told Claudia Winkleman they had been watching her YouTube videos in order to perfect their Rumba.
Emma said in reference to the critique from the dance expert: “I was YouTubing Shirley a lot. It didn’t happen, sorry.”
Anton went on to mischievously quip in response to the scores: “Last time we YouTube Shirley!”
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.50pm on BBC One.
