Alan Carr’s ex Paul Drayton jailed for crashing into police car while drunk

Alan Carr's estranged husband Paul Drayton sobbed as he was jailed for hitting a police car while four times over the drink-drive limit.
The 50 year old, who recently separated from his comedian ex Alan, was seen "swerving from one side of the road to the other" while driving during the school pick up time near his home in West Sussex in October 2021.
Paul was pursued by police, who signalled for him to pull over, before he reversed into a police car.
Prosecutor Suzanne Soros at Brighton Magistrates Court said: "The defendant then reverses into the police vehicle."
A breath alcohol test returned a reading of 153 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath – four times the legal limit and was described as “off the scale”.
The husband of comedian Alan, 45, was told he was “gambling with the lives of others” when he got behind the wheel, the court heard on Wednesday 26 January.
Paul's representative at the hearing, John Dye, said he has been dealing with a "perfect storm" on the day as he had been dealing with alcohol and mental health issues.
He also had to have a brain operation and had been injured after falling from a horse, he told the court.
Dye added: “And the final straw, as is now well documented, his private live as well.
“His partner of some 13 or 14 years – that relationship has broken down, partly due to the problems Mr Drayton has with alcohol.”
Despite acknowledging his alcohol issues alongside the breakdown of his marriage, District Judge Amanda Kelly sentenced him to jail.

She said: "You were dicing with death when you got behind the wheel in that state.
“Not only were you gambling with your own life but you were gambling with the lives of others.
“You could easily have killed or seriously injured someone else’s child, partner or friend.”
She added that the breath alcohol test reading was "so high it’s off the scale”.
Paul has now been jailed for 14 weeks and has been banned from driving for three years.
