Stewart Adams dead at 95 – world famous British doctor who developed ibuprofen passes away

Dr Stewart Adams left school at 17 and started a pharmacist apprenticeship with a Boots chemist in Cambridgeshire.

He led a team of doctors who discovered ibuprofen in the 1950s.

Following further trials it was licensed in 1969 as a prescription drug.

Dr Adams received an OBE for his work in the 1980s.

The dad-of-two and grandad-of-six, of Nottingham, died at Queen's Medical Centre in the city on January 30.

His son Chris told the Nottingham Post: "He was very humble and very objective and measured.

"He was an incredibly modest person who was very much dedicated to his work and his family."

On his dad's work, Mr Adams added: "Being involved in that kind of project and remaining completely grounded and being such a good role model for my brother and I and the grandchildren and others in the family, we are incredibly proud of him.

"I think quietly he was very pleased that people recognised him later on."
