Pregnant woman, 35, stabbed to death in her own home as she desperately tried to protect her baby

Jennifer Irigoyen, 35, was found in the hallway to her apartment in Queens at around 1am on Sunday and sources said she had wounds all over her body.

She was taken to Wyckoff Hospital where she later died at 2.30am.

Ms Irigoyen was five months pregnant.

Blood could still be seen covering the steps leading up to her building and could also be seen smeared on the walls.

A neighbour of the victim who only wanted to be known as Kristin told the New York Post: “There’s blood all over.

“I’m really shaken up, I’m really scared.”

She added that she heard Ms Irigoyen arguing with a man with the woman “yelling something about her baby, about wanting to protect her baby.”

“I heard screams. And then a man yelling, and her yelling.”

Police are said to be looking for a man who was seen fleeing the scene with sources saying he was her boyfriend.

Bloody foot prints could be seen leading out of the building and going north on Myrtle Avenue.

The owner of a nearby restaurant Dee Cuevas, 52, said he thought Ms Irigoyen had only moved to the area recently.

He added: “She’s very friendly, very sweet woman. She just came in here for a lemonade a couple days ago.”

Ms Irigoyen was a classically-trained pianist and an estate agent who specialised in luxury homes in Manhattan as well as Queens.

She also worked in interior design and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Ms Irigoyen was also a professional Latin ballroom dancer and instructor and also taught Spinning and Zumba.
