Italy: Growing fears of anti-immigrant attacks after election

Anti-immigrant and far-right forces have seen political gains in Italy and xenophobic violence has been making life dangerous for Italy’s minorities.

    Sunday’s election in Italy has seen the anti-immigrant party known as the League, formerly known as the Northern League, become a dominant force in Italian politics. Its leader, Matteo Salvini, says he’s the only possible candidate for prime minister.

    There are fears increasingly xenophobic rhetoric from politicians is feeding into attacks on foreigners.
