This is the final episode of the eighth season of this British medical documentary series, which aims to sort fact from fiction in the country's ongoing healthcare struggles. In a busy hour host Michael Mosley leads with a subject close to the nation's heart (and liver): giving up alcohol.

The trend of ditching the booze for a month is scientifically measured with control groups and a regimen of before and after testing, all of which is outlined briskly with just a few vox pops and a thankful focus on results which are clearly decisive, even if they're not always persuasive to those sober and taking part.

There's also some responsible reporting about the benefits of cannabis-based medicines (the plant contains more than 100 compounds no other flora has), and what shines through is the value of having qualified presenters engage with relevant experts to provide measured information. There are more than a few other fields that would benefit from a similar approach.
