Marvel Rumor: One of the Greatest TV Villains Ever Could Soon Join the MCU

Choosing the right actors to play famous Marvel villains could be deemed a real art form for the MCU casting department. So far, they’ve done a perfect job of finding not only the right actors, but also those willing to make the villains believable, e.g. Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio.

You have to wonder what the Marvel scouting is like, though, and how they go about finding the perfect candidates. No doubt looking at actors who played notable villains in past TV shows helps. When they’re character actors, Marvel likely realizes what that means in terms of performance devotion.

One of the best TV villains of the last decade was Gustavo “Gus” Fring from Breaking Bad. Played by Giancarlo Esposito, Marvel is now courting him to play a mysterious villain currently hidden under a code name.

What kind of villain might Giancarlo Esposito play?

According to MCU Cosmic, Esposito is being considered to play a very secret villain in an unknown, future Marvel movie. At the moment, it’s just a rumor, yet we’ve seen most MCU rumors turn out to have kernels of truth.

He’s on the A-list for playing a villain currently code-named “The Benefactor.” This character is considered one of the most notorious villains seen so far in any Marvel movie. Some speculation is this could be a new incarnation of Norman Osborn, something potentially intriguing if intended for a new Spider-Man film.

If you wonder what this really means, it could mean some serious intensity if Giancarlo brings one of his famous acting techniques to Marvel. Those of you familiar with the Gus Fring character will know how calm he was when chaos was going on around him during Breaking Bad’s run.

Esposito once explained his acting technique in allowing him to have such a chilling calm compared to fellow baddies.

The Esposito Method

When interviewed about his near iconic Gus Fring character, Esposito said he used his past yoga training to help bring the cool and confident persona to Fring. A lot of it was also based on Lieutenant Martin “Marty” Castillo, played by Edward James Olmos in 1980s-era Miami Vice. Those of you who remember this character will recall how relaxed he was amid criminal chaos going on around him.

Using that and yoga breathing techniques gave Esposito his unique approach in looking confident, no matter how many things were going awry. As he noted himself, it’s because Fring is overly confident anyway. He knows he has all the power and can bring down anybody he wants in minutes.

With this acting technique, he created one of the greatest TV villains of all time. No wonder Marvel wants him to play a villain. The question is, would an overly calm villain in the MCU look normal, or do fans expect an over-the-top comic book performance?

Anyone who’s read Marvel comic books for years knows most of the villains aren’t exactly subtle.

A subtle villain would help future MCU movies

An overly relaxed villain would be a lot more chilling since overconfidence always brings tension in an evil character. We can just picture Esposito now playing a character similar to Fring, maybe with some prosthetic makeup, and also a suit.

Whoever “The Benefactor” really remains to be seen. Seeing a new Norman Osborn would certainly bring a new shot in the arm if that character shows up in a future Spider-Man movie. Or he may be present in another Marvel movie for upcoming Phase Four.

Should “The Benefactor” be a lot like Gus Fring, all of the surviving Marvel superheroes may have more stress than usual in solving how to get rid of him.
