The nine players 'not at expected level to play for Real Madrid' after Ajax loss

The European Cup holders sensationally crashed out of the competition in a stunning 4-1 defeat to Ajax last night that effectively ended their season.

Sitting 12 points behind Barcelona in La Liga and falling short in the domestic cups, Real have nothing left to play for.

Spanish publication Marca laid into Los Blancos following the defeat labelling their knockout as the "failure of the century."

And they drew up a shortlist of first-team stars who they have deemed not good enough to represent the club.

They include boo boy Gareth Bale who continues to be slated by the Spanish press and remains in the firing line from supporters.

But the Welshman must take a staggering £70million cut if he is to return to the Premier League.

Summer signing Thibaut Courtois had a disaster last night and remains another whose future could be called into question.

Others include Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Karim Benzema, Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Nacho and Marcelo.

In a poll released by Marca, they asked their dedicated fan base which player should be sold this summer.

And the results were damning.

A staggering 87 per cent of people wanted Bale gone with Benzema and Courtois also in the firing line.

Real Madrid are prepared to open the transfer warchest and the end of the season in a bid to turn into a major force once again.

Eden Hazard is on the top of the list with Spurs striker Harry Kane also an option.
