Stoke's Ireland ace James McClean receives death threats in sick birthday card

JAMES McCLEAN has revealed he has been sent a death threat in the post over his Irish Republic beliefs.

Stoke star McClean has spoken openly about his pride as an Irishman and desire to see Northern Ireland leave British rule.

But he received a sickening birthday card with vile death threats in the post from an anonymous person who ranted anti-IRA thoughts.

The 30-year-old, who makes a political point each year by refusing to wear a poppy for Remembrance Day, decided to go public with what had happened by posting four pictures of the message scrawled across a normal birthday card.

With the simple message "no words needed", McClean gave his followers a glimpse of the kind of horrific abuse he has to put up with because of his political stance.

The front of the card read: "Happy birthday and die. Have an Amazing death, fenian sub-human b******."

The sender then went on to celebrate historical incidents where members of the IRA were killed by British security forces during the Troubles.

He then went on to say: "You don't like this country and we don't like you."
