Arsenal boss Emery fined £8,000 for kicking water bottle towards Brighton fan but escapes touchline ban

The Arsenal boss admitted a charge of improper conduct and has accepted the penalty for that.

Emery grew frustrated as Arsenal let a 1-0 lead slip on the south coast, ultimately dropping two points against the Seagulls.

Now he has been punished by the Football Association after booting the bottle at a supporter.

He has, however, escaped a touchline ban.

A statement from the FA read: "Arsenal Manager Unai Emery has been fined £8,000 after he admitted an FA improper conduct charge and accepted the standard penalty.

"It concerned his conduct during the game against Brighton on 26 December 2018."

Emery kicked the bottle in frustration and immediately apologised to the fan – and did the same after the final whistle.

Arsenal also gave the supporter Laurent Koscielny’s shirt as a gesture of good will.

Jose Mourinho was handed a one-match ban in November 2016 after lashing out at a water bottle after referee Jonathan Moss booked Paul Pogba for diving.

The Special One then admitted improper conducted which led to a one-match ban.

Mourinho felt he was treated unfairly and was singled out by the FA after also being fined £16,000.

The three-man disciplinary panel deemed Mourinho had "aggressively kicked the bottle in a manner that could have endangered people around him regardless of the motivation to do so".
