Writer spots that lions in Noah’s Ark kids’ books are nearly always ‘gay’ – The Sun

A WRITER who discovered a quirk in dozens of children's books that sees the two lions of Noah's Ark portrayed as male has taken to Twitter to share his hilarious response to the 'gay' animals.

Anthony Oliveira, from Toronto, Canada, noticed the detail in illustrations of the story, which tells how animals went in mating pairs onto the ark in order to survive the coming flood.

And he discovered that more often than not, both lions were drawn as males.

"I love that Noah's Ark is a story we ubiquitously tell to children because it is full of cute animals and a big boat and a rainbow," Anthony began, before joking: "And the mass extinction of life on earth."

Posting a picture of a children's artist's drawing, he continued: "This artist remembered that there a boy chickens and girl chickens, but let their guard down with the lions.

"And the error is systemic to the genre it seems."

In the image, the lions were drawn identically and both with a large mane – something only male lions have in order to attract female attention.

Anthony went on to show more than a dozen images of the Biblical story which also included what he dubbed the 'gay lions'.

Twitter users were quick to jump in poking fun at the artwork, and his tweets collectively received over 50,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

One person joked: "Of course lions are gay – that's why a group of lions is called a pride."

While another added: "The gay lions are my favourite part of the story – I noticed this years ago."

Others were quick to point out other animals that had been incorrectly drawn, including cows and elephants – where two females are often depicted.

"If we want to get technical, since neither of those elephants had tusks, they are both female Asian elephants," one woman wrote in the comments.

"Are we just going to gloss over the lesbian cows?" said another in response. "I don't think any of the arks with cows showed a single bull. Ever."

In other news, parents took to social media to share the funniest and most ridiculous reasons their kids had meltdowns – and it's sure to have you laughing.
