Woman strapped to the steering wheel of her Citroen rescued by cops after trying to recreate Fifty Shades scene in Tenerife car park sparked kidnap fears

Officers were called after a woman was seen strapped to the steering wheel of her Citroen 3 with duct tape tied around her neck at 11am in a car park.

The bizarre rescue took place beside one of Tenerife's most popular beaches, Playa Las Teresitas on Monday morning.

Island newspaper La Opinion de Tenerife said the unnamed local, whose age has not been revealed, was rushed to hospital after police cut her free.

She is said to have suffered serious injuries to her wrists from the plastic cable ties she had used to bind her wrists to the steering wheel.

A witness who dialled 999 when he saw the situation the woman was in said he was alerted by the constant tooting of her car horn which she is believed to have activated by pressing her nose down on it.

The island paper said she told police as she was taken away in an ambulance: “I was trying to recreate a scene from 50 Shades of Grey but things got out of hand.

“I haven’t got a partner and I’m alone.”

Las Teresitas beach is in the north-east of Tenerife near the centre of the capital Santa Cruz.

No-one was immediately available for comment today from the island’s Policia Nacional, the force involved in the incident.

Fifty Shades of Grey is an erotic romantic drama that was hugely successful in cinemas, based on the book sequence by British author E.L James.
