A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in Taiwan for drowning her newborn son and dumping his body in maggot-infested bushes.
Police found the remains of the seven-day-old infant in a red plastic bag outside a temple near the woman’s home in the western county of Miaoli last Saturday, according to reports.
The boy’s entire body had been fed on by maggots, leaving only a foot and several organs for medical examiners to use in DNA identifications tests.
Prosecutors believe that the woman, surnamed Liu, wanted to take revenge on her ex-boyfriend who broke up with her after she told him about the pregnancy, according to Apple Daily.

The ex-boyfriend had refused to help raise the child and left her, according to the report.
Liu gave birth to the boy on December 15 at a clinic and drowned him in a sink seven days later at the Taoist Tudigong temple 150 feet from her home before discarding his body in the bushes.
Police and social workers arrived at the woman’s home on February 23 after she was found to have violated Taiwan’s Household Registration Law, which states that all children must be registered within 60 days of birth.
Authorities said Liu at first denied having given birth, claiming that she went to the clinic for a tumour removal instead, according to Apple Daily.
