NYPD deploys detectives in anticipation of possible post-election protests

The NYPD has deployed detectives from across the city to known protest locations such as the Brooklyn Bridge in preparation for election unrest, officials said Tuesday.

More than 1,000 officers were deployed from Randall’s Island, where they were briefed on intelligence and potential agitators, to locations that included hot spots in Brooklyn, Trump Tower and Times Square, officials said.

Police also used the island to deploy cops throughout the George Floyd protests over the summer.

Chief of Department Terence Monahan said earlier at a press conference on election security at One Police Plaza that cops were prepared to be out in force.

“We are going to be out there in force with thousands of police officers over the next couple of days making sure the city stays safe,” he said. “We do not expect to see any repeat of what we saw here in May and June.”
