Heartbreaking photo of man with baby daughter he’ll never meet as he was stabbed to death days before her birth – The Sun

THIS is the heartbreaking photo of a man with the baby daughter he'll never meet as he was stabbed to death days before her birth.

Grieving widow Bridget Gavin, 22, shared the devastating picture as she welcomed their newborn Mary in the early hours of this morning.

Her late husband, David Gavin, died on Friday evening in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, after being knifed during a 20-minute fight outside a house.

Police and paramedics raced to save him but he died later in hospital.

David, who worked as a landscape gardener, already had a three-year-old daughter Elizabeth, who he doted on.

'YOU CAN FEEL HIS PRESENCE'

Bridget's dad Bill, who adored his "best friend" David, told the Mirror Online: "Mary is absolutely gorgeous.

"David would have loved her more than anything. You can feel his presence.

"She's a big, strong girl like her dad."

A family statement released by police the week after David died read: "He was a loving, hard-working family man. Everything he did was for his wife and child.

David was due to be a father for a second time any day and was so excited to meet his new baby and move into a new home. He has worked so hard for this and will now sadly never get the chance.

"His three-year-old daughter Elizabeth and wife Bridget are absolutely devastated and miss him more than words can ever say.

"David was due to be a father for a second time any day and was so excited to meet his new baby and move into a new home. He has worked so hard for this and will now sadly never get the chance.

"David had so much to live for. His whole family is absolutely heartbroken.

"His mother Elizabeth and father Martin pray the person who killed their son will face legal justice.”

MURDER CASE

Detectives are now working around the clock to find out what happened on the night David died, two days before his wife was due to give birth.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and assault has been released under investigation.

A second woman, aged 21, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Chatterton said: "We believe the fight lasted for around 20 minutes before the call came into police and at some point David was stabbed.

If you saw something, no matter how insignificant it may seem, then please get in touch.

"It was getting dark around the time of the incident. I appreciate there may not have been many people in the area but if you saw something, no matter how insignificant it may seem, then please get in touch.

"We know that a number of people in the area heard the disturbance, so if you do have something to tell us but you’ve not yet made contact, please do so at your earliest opportunity."

More than 100 people were fatally stabbed in the first four and a half months of the year.

Data shows the victims are mainly young and male, though they ranged from 14-year-old Jaden Moodie to 80-year-old Barbara Heywood.

Of the first 100 cases recorded up until mid May, 30 of the fatal stabbings were in London, 10 in Greater Manchester and eight in the West Midlands.
