Donald Trump’s ‘delusional’ mental state is a ‘danger to America’, three top psychiatrists warn impeachment inquiry

THREE eminent psychiatrists claim "delusional" Donald Trump could become dangerous amid the ongoing impeachment inquiry.

The experts – who have never met the President – even believe he has the potential to become a "threat to the safety" of the US.

The warning reportedly comes in a letter penned to the Senate Judiciary Committee – who are overseeing the probe into Trump's actions.

It was written by Yale's Dr Bandy Lee, George Washington University Professor Dr John Zinner, and former CIA profiler Dr Jerrold Post.

The document was accompanied by a petition signed by more than 350 mental health professionals who endorse their fears.

"We are convinced that, as the time of possible impeachment approaches, Donald Trump has the real potential to become ever more dangerous, a threat to the safety of our nation," the letter reads, according to an excerpt obtained by Yahoo.

It also warns "failing to monitor or to understand the psychological aspects (of impeachment), or discounting them, could lead to catastrophic outcomes."

All three psychiatrists have said they are willing to testify as part of the impeachment inquiry into the under-fire US President.

“[W]e implore Congress to take these danger signs seriously and to constrain his destructive impulses," the psychiatrists write.

"We and many others are available to give important relevant recommendations as well as to educate the public so that we can maximise our collective safety.”

They did not elaborate on the specific threats to public safety they believe Trump poses.

Dr Lee also told The Independent she believes Trump is showing "a great deal of cruelty and vindictiveness" in his "accelerated, repetitive tweets."

She claimed it is evidence that the President – who has called himself a 'stable genius' –  is showing signs of "delusion".

Doubts about Trump's mental stability were also raised by his political rivals shortly after he became President.

However, White House physician Dr Ronny Jackson then declared Trump "has absolutely no cognitive or mental issues."

And just two weeks ago Trump insisted he was in "very good" health after undergoing the first phase of an annual medical check.

The president tweeted that he had the first phase of checks at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington.

He said: "Everything very good (great!). Will complete next year."

On Wednesday, law professors testified  Trump’s conduct is "worse than President Nixon" and a textbook case of impeachable "high crimes."

An impeachment hearing is currently under way into claims the US President pressured Ukraine into interfering in the 2020 presidential election.

It is examining bombshell allegations that Trump had solicited foreign interference effort to dig dirt on White House challenger Joe Biden.
