De Blasio’s bogus bid at appeasing Asian-American anger

Mayor de Blasio met Thursday with Asian-American community leaders to try to undo the damage from his yearlong drive to slash by 50 percent the number of Asian kids who win entry into the city’s top high schools. He failed — though it’s doubtful he even truly tried.

The belated move can’t possibly heal the wounds left by the fact that neither he nor Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza did any outreach in advance. Nor the insult delivered each time Carranza calls the test “racist.”

Then, too, City Hall made a point of inviting reps from several groups that oppose his drive to kill the race-blind test for admissions to the “elite eight” high schools. But Chalkbeat reported that at least one of those groups never received an invitation.

That was Wai Wah Chin, whose Chinese American Citizens Alliance is also suing to stop the change de Blasio has already pushed through — a complicated revamp of the alternate route into elite-school admissions that is also an attempt to reduce Asian admissions.

Meanwhile, the mayor’s minions also invited enough other voices to the meeting that, we hear, it felt packed with his supporters.

At the event, a well-placed source told The Post’s Max Jaeger, de Blasio blamed “the tabloid media” (that’s us!) for his plan’s unpopularity. Right: No community would object to being stigmatized and actively discriminated against by the mayor and his chancellor if it weren’t for that darned Post.

Maybe this pathetic pretense will fool the national media covering the joke that is de Blasio’s White House run. But it won’t fool anyone around here.

Or up in Albany, where it looks like the Legislature is going to ignore the mayor’s demand to ax the admission exam.

If de Blasio really wants to rebuild these bridges, he needs to rethink his Discovery games and get rid of his racial-arsonist chancellor.
