Brits told to keep up 2m rule and lockdown habits – just DAYS after restrictions lifted

BRITS have been told to keep up lockdown habits such as distancing – just days after restrictions were lifted.

People in England have been urged to keep wearing their face masks and use the Covid app to check in to venues.

It comes after all legal requirements to do so were lifted on Monday.

From July 19, social distancing, working from home and compulsory face masks were scrapped – with holidays back on, although with strict conditions and a very big exception.

But an official Government campaign has been launched today to replace the old slogan of "hands, face, space, fresh air" with "keep life moving".

It encourages people to still follow social distancing guidance, harking back to the two metre rule.

One video, featuring Dr Amir Khan, shows a young man stepping off a pavement to allow an older neighbour more room.

The message is for the public to meet outside if, let fresh air in when inside, wear a face covering in crowded places, check-in into venues and test regularly, even if they have been vaccinated.

Health and Social Care Secretary, Sajid Javid, said: We should all be proud of the efforts of our nation in getting us to a point where we have been able to lift restrictions in a careful and cautious way as we move one step closer to normal life.

"This new campaign highlights the importance of continuing to follow the simple actions we have become accustomed to, such as practising good hygiene and letting in fresh air wherever possible.

“Our world-leading vaccine programme has helped us build a strong wall of defence, saving tens of thousands of lives and preventing millions of infections.

"By the end of September, we plan to make full vaccination a condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather, as well as for quarantine-free travel from amber list countries.

"I urge everyone who is eligible to book their first and second jabs without delay.”

Earlier this week Boris Johnson begged the public for a "cautious" end to lockdown amid the "extremely contagious Delta variant".

He said: "We've got to do it cautiously. We've got to remember that this virus is sadly still out there.

"Cases are rising, we can see the extreme contagiousness of the Delta variant."

To stop the spread as cases continue to rise Brits have been urged to be vaccinated.

Yesterday we told how the number of Covid patients in England hospitals climbed to its highest level for five months, as daily deaths surged by 73.

New cases also remained high, with another 44,104 new Covid infections reported.

A total of 752 hospital admissions were reported on July 19, NHS England figures show.

Dr Amir Khan added: "Thanks to the nation’s efforts, we are now able to travel to family and friends across the country, and visit the places that we love and have missed – such as cinemas, sports stadiums and restaurants.

"But whilst we can enjoy the benefits of restrictions lifting, please remember that Covid-19 is still with us; good ventilation indoors, regular testing and handwashing are just some of the actions that will help stop the spread.

" Being vaccinated helps protect you and those around you further, because the vaccine limits the volume or quantity of viral particles shed by individuals who are infected with the virus.

"Even if someone has been vaccinated, they can still get the virus and pass it on.

"This is because its particles bind to individuals and spread through talking, exhaling, eating, or performing other normal daily activities. "
