I’M A Celebrity has been inundated with Ofcom complaints from viewers concerned about animal welfare.

Fans were not impressed when Matt Hancock was showered with frogs in his final trial of the series and they rushed to express their unease about animals being used for entertainment.

In total, 80 people complained about the trial and the controversial series reached 4,000 complaints in all.

The majority of viewers objected to the show having former health secretary Matt Hancock in the line-up.

The politician – who is still a working MP for West Sussex – is understood to have picked up a pay cheque of £400,000 for his appearance, which left many fans of the show very unhappy.

Matt, who ended up coming third in the competition, angered members of the public during the pandemic when he broke his own lockdown rules and had an affair with Gina.

The Ofcom figures come after the RSPCA received 17,000 complaints from viewers over animals being used in the challenges.

And animal charity PETA has been inundated with 54,000 complaints over animal welfare.

This year's series of the show has seen reptiles, spiders, eels and a variety of other critters used for the trials.

The celebrities must compete in the challenges to win food for the camp or else they must subsist on a diet of rice and beans.
