Justice Secretary Dominic Raab appeared on Tuesday’s instalment of BBC Breakfast where he was probed by Sally Nugent on the allegations Prime Minister Boris Johnson “lied” to parliament about a Downing Street party. Johnson’s former chief adviser Dominic Cummings claimed the leader lied when he thought a drinks party in May 2020 was a “work event” in an explosive blog post on Monday. Nugent quizzed Raab on the matter but she had to ask the same question repeatedly, telling the minister “I am going to ask you one more time” before he finally answered directly.

Nugent said: “I am just going to ask you a really simple question, a really basic question.

“If a minister lies to parliament, do you believe they should resign?

Raab replied: “Well look if you’re talking about a lie I think it has very serious consequences but it probably depends on the context, but of course, that’s totally unacceptable.

“But of course what I am not going to do is get dragged into hypothetical questions because I think the context does matter.”
