Neville and Carragher in Sky Sports TV bust-up over Man Utd ace De Gea's error against Arsenal

The Spaniard has been arguably United's best player for the past five years, but was completely wrong-footed as Granit Xhaka put Arsenal 1-0 up in their game.

A penalty from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wrapped up the three points for Arsenal, but it was De Gea's goalkeeping that became the talking point.

And former Premier League stars Neville and Carragher disagreed in their analysis of the game's opener.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: "In terms of the goal, I thought David de Gea made a big mistake and I think, to be fair for that, Man Utd lost the game because in the second half it allowed Arsenal to play on the counter-attack."

When the host David Jones told Neville that Carragher "wasn't sure" it was an error, the former Manchester United star added: ""I don't know why he wasn't sure about it.

"It's gone in the centre of the goal from 30 yards, it's not even a debate."

Carragher then fired back at Neville saying that not everyone "has to have the same opinion as you".

But Neville fiercely stuck to his guns adding that because the ball flew central into the goal, insisting "it's not a debate".

The pair then went on to disagree over whether the "swing" of the ball played the biggest role in the goal before Neville tried to round of the argument.

He added: "I don't want to focus on it too much. I think it's a mistake and it was a determining factor in that match."

United boss Solskjaer backed his goalkeeper while putting the goal down to the "strange" way the shot moved through the air.

The Norwegian said afterwards: “I don’t class it as a mistake by De Gea.

"I was stood right behind the ball and we don’t put enough pressure on Xhaka, who must be Brazilian by the way.

“He’s struck the ball from outside the area and it serves and moves. It goes to David’s left and changes direction completely.

“David is disappointed every time he concedes a goal but he’s been absolutely fantastic for us.”
