Gareth Bale's chances of Wrexham move revealed after Rob McElhenney's social media plea | The Sun

GARETH BALE must have thought the speculation surrounding his next transfer would be over when hanging up his boots earlier this year.

Yet not even half a year later and the Welsh legend COULD be on for the biggest signing in Football League history, according to Ladbrokes.

They make it just 7/2 now that Bale – still only 33 years of age – hangs up his 7 iron for the time being and signs for League Two new boys Wrexham.

We revealed a list of leading strikers that owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could try to persuade to the Racecourse Ground after sealing promotion from the National League last week.

The idea of Gareth Bale being included was as farfetched as they come, even despite the obvious Welsh links.

But a recent social media exchange between Bale and McElhenney has the Wrexham fans dreaming that a mega deal could be agreed.

Rob initially responded to a video sent to him by Bale, in which he congratulated the owners for promotion and what they were doing with the club.

Gareth Bale to Wrexham?

Ladbrokes odds

  • Gareth Bale to sign for Wrexham this summer – 7/2

Rob tweeted: "Hey @GarethBale11 let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season", following by a succession of Welsh flags.

Bale then responded, quoting the tweet with: "Depends what course…"

Ryan Reynolds then got involved, adding: "I will shave a professional-grade golf course into Rob’s back if you’ll give Wrexham a season."

That's forced Ladbrokes to slash the odds of the signing happening, which would be historic in Football League terms.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are teasing fans with what would undoubtedly be the biggest transfer in EFL history.

"Following a back and forth between the pair and Gareth Bale on social media this week, the odds suggest a mega move could genuinely be on the cards this summer."
