RACHAEL'S SUPER SIX IS JUST WHAT WAS NEEDED

Many pundits are rating this year's Cheltenham Festival as the perfect tonic at a difficult time for both racing and the country as a whole.

    RUBY SALUTES BLACKMORE

Ruby Walsh hailed Rachael Blackmore's super six wins to take Cheltenham's Leading Jockey trophy.

Walsh said: "It’s been incredible what’s she’s done, tactically all week she’s been in the right place on so many horses.

"The wider world will see her now for what she wants to be, and that’s just a jockey."

Not one for the attention, Blackmore has had no choice but to be busy in front of the cameras this week.

After picking up her latest trophy, she said: "I'm genuinely just so overwhelmed by these last few days.

"It's all about the horses you're getting on, and I just feel so lucky to be riding for the people I'm riding for.

    "I can't comprehend that I'm the leading rider – it's a bit surreal.

"Getting an award from AP McCoy in the shape of Ruby Walsh is crazy."

    QUEEN RACHAEL

IT'S official. Rachael Blackmore is the Queen of Cheltenham.

The Irish star recorded a stunning six wins to take home the Leading Jockey trophy.

Blackmore's wins were all in Grade 1s – the top-level of races

The 31-year-old daughter of a teacher and dairy-farmer was no unknown in the racing world before the week kicked off, but will have earned thousands of new fans as she became the first female to win the award.

But you can get forget the gender tag – she's as good as it gets.

She rode Honeysuckle to a thumping win in the Champion Hurdle and fellow Henry De Bromhead star Bob Olinger to win the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle.

Sir Gerhard's Champion Bumper win was a result of one of, if not THE ride of the week.

Blackmore may have fallen agonisingly short in the Gold Cup as stablemate Minella Indo took the big one.

But Grade 1 wins on Telmesomethingirl, Allaho in the Ryanair and Quilixios in the Triumph Hurdle almost made up for it.

Punters had Willie Mullins number one Paul Townend down as the red-hot 1-3 favourite before racing got under way. Blackmore was a 14-1 chance.

    ONE NELLA OF A JACKPOT

One Irish punter scooped a mega £500k payday thanks for Minella Indo's stunning Gold Cup win at Cheltenham.

The punter, from Shannon in County Clare, won the life-changing sum from just a £17 accumulator on Henry De Bromhead's Festival runners.

The bet was placed in a Paddy Power shop in Shannon at the start of December.

The acca got off to a flying start when Honeysuckle won the Champion Hurdle, with the punter picking her out at 16/1.

The next pick was Bob Olinger in the Ballymore at 20/1 before Put The Kettle On sprung a surprise in the Champion Chase at 8/1.

And the final leg Minella Indo, picked at 8-1, obliged in brilliant fashion in the Gold Cup.

Spokesperson Paddy Power said: "There will be a socially distanced celebration somewhere in Shannon tonight courtesy of an incredible bet placed more than three months ago.

"After a miserable 2020 I could only think about avoiding Zoom calls and burning banana bread, let alone having the foresight to pull off a life-changing Cheltenham punt."

    BROM TO A WINNER

Punters struck gold with accumulators at the Festival today.

A Paddy Power customer scooped 578 euros – nearly £0.5million – from a 20 euro bet on Henry De Bromhead's elite horses.

    GOLD MINE

Jubilant Irish trainer Henry De Bromhead says Gold Cup winner Minella Indo "comes alive" at the big moments.

De Bromhead smiled: "It's unbelievable. I'm delighted for all connections – the Maloneys, Barry and Mike and everyone.

"We've had so much fun with this guy, we weren't beaten by much with Monalee and to go and do it with him, he's just an incredible horse.

"He comes alive here and I suppose when you saw Allaho winning like he did yesterday, it gave us more confidence with him.

"He's amazing, he just comes alive. He's like a different horse, a little bit like Champion Chase winner Put The Kettle On.

"I think I'm still in my hotel, it's Monday evening and I'm about wake up and nothing's even started yet. That's where I'm at at the moment, it's brilliant.

"A Plus Tard was amazing, he ran a cracker for the Thompsons of Cheveley Park. Both jockeys were amazing, it's just brilliant."

    DE BROMHEAD REACTS

Henry de Bromhead has tweeted following his win in the Gold Cup.

In a video showing the low of Jack Kennedy falling aboard red-hot favourite Envoi Allen yesterday to the high of the big win today, the trainer quotes it with a succession of trophy and Ireland flag emojis.

    DO A JO'B

Joseph O'Brien is hoping to pick up the final race today and has a good chance with Fire Attack with Oakley Brown on board,

    He told Betfair:

Fire Attack is a talented horse, but he just hasn't been a help to himself so far over hurdles. He has raced too freely in all of his starts over them to date and it's a testament to his talent that he nearly won a Grade 3 novice on his hurdling debut despite this.

This big field and likely strong pace should help him relax over this longer trip. He has the ability win a big one off this sort of mark, but he has to relax and do things more evenly than he has been.
